Chaffinches are frequent visitors to my garden. During the Great British Gardenbird Watch they were the commonest bird as reflected in the results for Dumfries & Galloway. The House Sparrow was the second commonest. Chaffinches are usually ground feeders. They also take food from the table and the hanging feeders. Males are particularly colourful at this time of the year.
