Sometime ago I posted a couple of pics of Bert and one of his kids. I haven't seen them for a while. Just the other week I spotted a Blackbird chick on the grass. It went rummaging in the flower borders and eventually the rockery. To my surprise when it went to the rockery I caught a glimpse of another chick at the rear. Are they brothers, sisters, brother and sister or not related at all. Chances are they are from the same brood but there was no sign of either parent. Maybe they are having their second brood of the season. Hopefully they will bring more of their family . First pic was the first one I noticed.

Bert and the Kid 18/6/09
I have a resident male Blackbird called Bert. He has been coming to feed for the last three years and is a very regular visitor during the winter months. He always disappear around May/June when I assume he has found a mate and playing happy families. Mrs B comes to visit as well but any other Blackbird is not welcome in the garden. Bert has been AWOL since early May, coming to visit very, very occasionally and not staying long. This year for the first time evey he brought one of his fledgling. I was just opening the blinds this morning when I saw Bert and further up the grass, I thought was Mrs B. I only had a very quick glimpse. This bird run to Bert and was promptly fed, a young Blackbird, a first for me. Am I excited or what?

Mrs Bertie Blackbird
This female blackbird I presume is Bertie Blackbird's Missus. She is in the garden every day rummaging for food and has even been on the bird table. Expect she has young somewhere, probably in the wood which is about thirty yards (haven't gone metric yet) away. I haven't seen much of Bertie recently, just hope he is OK. No doubt he will appear just when you don't expect him to.
