Black Swan

A few weeks ago, we were at the FIL's for the weekend, same week as we went to see the son in Glasgow (that was some two days). There was a local Gala that we went to, but unfortunately when the parade was about start the heavens opened. Eventually the festivities took place and FW's sister, husband, daughter and grandchildren won first prize in a fancy dress section. That evening we had a meal which the FIL insisted on paying. The following day we went home and took the FIL and She Who Must Be Obeyed for lunch at a Hotel on the way. The Hotel is situated on a loch which is a haven for wildlife. FW looked out the window and saw a Black Swan. She went out for a closer look and thought it only had one leg. I went out to have a look. The swan was standing between two Jet Skis and indeed looked as if it only had one leg. On closer examination it became apparent that it had tucked up its right leg under its wing. Level with the white area and to the right you can see the tip of its webbed foot. Even in the water, swimming with the leg tucked up it was going straight and in whatever direction it wanted. Amazing! There were quite a few ducks, Mallards, which were very tame, always looking for food, coming ashore and onto the patio. Geese were also evident but more of the domesticated variety. One was white with a black neck and head. Loch is used for Water Skiing and boating and ducks etc don't seem to be bothered, probably used to the activity.
